Fall Championships Brings 1,000+ Athletes to Virginia Beach

This past weekend thousands of athletes competed at the the 2023 Fall Championships concluded last weekend. The event, which stands as the second-largest state-level competition of the year for Special Olympics Virginia, saw over a thousand athletes compete with spirit and determination. Participants showed off their hard-earned skills in golf, volleyball, pickleball, soccer, and bocce at various locations including the Virginia Beach National, Virginia Beach Sports Center, and Hampton Roads Soccer Complex.

The success of the event was bolstered by the dedication of over 800 volunteers and the expertise of more than 200 coaches, creating an environment filled with enthusiasm and true sportsmanship.

The two-day sporting spectacle kicked off on Saturday, November 4th, with competitions running from morning to evening. The action continued into Sunday, where athletes competed in roller skating, bowling, alongside ongoing golf, soccer, volleyball, and pickleball matches.

A highlight of the event was the vibrant Opening Ceremony held at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Saturday evening. The ceremony featured inspiring speeches from athletes, special presentations, and a celebratory dance, marking an unforgettable start to the Championships.
