Radio host, tattoo getter, fire walker. And now, hot dog namesake?
Jeff Katz has never been one to support Special Olympics in ordinary ways. Over the years he’s teamed up with Chesterfield County Sheriff Karl Leonard to help raise thousands of dollars for the movement. He’s walked across fire. He’s even gotten a tattoo in honor of our athletes. And now he’s lending his name to lunch.
This month, the Texas Inn, one of Virginia’s oldest diners, has renamed its famous all-beef Nathan’s hot dog to the Katz Dog, with 50 cents from every one sold going directly to support Special Olympics Virginia.
The effort is a collaboration between Katz and the Texas Inn, which has served Virginia communities since 1935 and now has four locations across the state.
“We wanted to partner with a statewide organization that makes a meaningful difference,” said Texas Inn owner Dave Saunders. “Special Olympics Virginia is a cause that brings people together in a way our whole team and community can get behind.”
To celebrate, the Texas Inn will host a special Katz Dog menu unveiling event at its Richmond location at 2901 Park Avenue in the Museum District on Monday, Aug. 12 at 1pm. Jeff will be there along with our team and lunch will be provided. Everyone is welcome to come out and support.
We’re grateful, as always, to Jeff Katz and Sheriff Karl Leonard for being bold, creative and relentless champions for our athletes.
