Celebrating Disability Employment Awareness Month with United Airlines

United Airlines and Special Olympics Virginia have teamed up to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October.

United Airlines and Special Olympics Virginia have teamed up to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month this October, showcasing a positive step towards inclusive employment at Dulles International Airport.

Four athletes from Special Olympics Virginia, Colin Bellows, Maggie Goodman, John Gionfriddo, and Sophia Gheblawi, have been employed as Service Ambassadors in a notable initiative. These ambassadors greet and assist United Airlines customers, helping them navigate the airport and ensuring they reach their departure gates smoothly.

"United serves the world. Bringing the Special Olympics Service Ambassadors into the company and having them work alongside us as employees symbolizes the partnership." - Captain Jill Mills.

The partnership and Service Ambassador Program shine a light on the capabilities of individuals with disabilities, providing meaningful employment and fostering a welcoming environment for travelers. Colin, Maggie, John, and Sophia not only enhance the passenger experience with their diligence but also stand as a testament to the potential that lies in inclusive hiring practices. This initiative reinforces the value of creating diverse and supportive workplaces, championing a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and make an impact.
