4x4x48 For Special Olympics Virginia Athletes

Special Olympics Virginia supporter plans to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours.

Right now, somewhere in Richmond, RK Durnwirth is running. In fact, over the next 48 hours, chances are he'll be running, 48 miles in all, to support Special Olympics Virginia athletes.

Over the past couple of months, RK has taken on a physical challenge each month. In January, it was 5K each day. In February, it was 1,000 pushups a day. So in March, when he heard about David Goggins 4x4x48 challenge, he knew it was the next physical challenge. He will be running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours.

However, it's simply not enough to complete this challenge, RK wants to fundraise and raise awareness for a deserving cause along the way.

"I've been so drawn to intense physical challenges over the past 10 years because I always felt like an underdog. When I started to consider organizations that I wanted to draw attention to, I just saw such much of my journey in these athletes. They overcome adversity so much and it just feels like that is something people can really resonate with."

So, RK started fundraising with a goal of $480.

"We raised that in like 3 hours. So I've pushed the total up 4 or 5 times."

Right now, RK Durnwirth has raised over $3,300 for Special Olympics Virginia athletes. While he has no idea how much he will end up raising, he's thankful to be able to support athletes.
