Welcome New Partner: Stafford Tourism

Start off your March with a slam dunk! Join us at Special Olympics Virginia’s Basketball Championships, March 6-7 in Stafford. More than 850 athletes will go for gold in full court, half-court, unified and individual skills competitions.

Fans are invited to the Opening Ceremony, Friday, March 6 from 7:45 to 8:30 pm at Colonial Forge High School (550 Courthouse Road in Stafford). The event tips off with a Unified basketball game, featuring players with and without disabilities on the same team, contests and cool prizes, fan giveaways and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron.

Help us fill the stands - your support will help unite more than 390,000 champions with and without disabilities in 475 K-12 schools, and thousands more in community-based programs across Virginia. Sign up online today; cheering is fun, free and flexible (come and go as you please!) – and you can earn community service/volunteer credit.

Cheering opportunities also are available throughout the weekend at 10 schools plus Courthouse Community Center. Additional volunteer opportunities may be available in mid-February; please check back for details.

This year, we’re also excited to welcome a new signature sponsor to the weekend’s activities – Stafford Tourism. As you begin making travel plans, check out all Tour Stafford VA has to offer at https://www.tourstaffordva.com and be sure to give their team a high-five at Friday’s Opening Ceremony.

Basketball Championships, presented by GEICO with additional support from signature sponsor Stafford Tourism, is one of many events offered year round by Special Olympics Virginia.
