Explore free health screenings and services for athletes, volunteers, and even family members. The Healthy Athletes program is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities — and it's all free.
What’s Offered:
- Special Smiles – Dental screenings, cleanings, varnish; potential for x-rays, fillings, and extractions (requires permission).
- MOM Project – In-depth dental care by dentists and hygienists (separate release form required).
- Opening Eyes – Eye exams and free prescription eyewear for athletes.
- Fun Fitness – Flexibility, strength, and balance assessments for athletes.
- Healthy Hearing – Hearing screenings and follow-up recommendations.
- Health Promotion – Education on hydration, nutrition, blood pressure, and sun safety.
- Skin Cancer Checks – Free screenings for anyone by Affiliated Dermatology.
Important Notes:
- Release Forms Required:
- Special Smiles & MOM Project require signed release forms.
- MOM Project form must be the official version shared with HODs and area leaders.
- Athletes must have permission from a guardian for any treatment beyond cleaning.
- A SOVA staff member will contact families if an athlete is not accompanied by a legal guardian.

Special Smiles, MOM Project, Opening Eyes, and Fun Fitness are for registered athletes only and require a current Healthy Athlete release on file with the Harrisonburg office.
