Event Support Staff

These roles offer athletes the opportunity to help behind the scenes at local, regional, and state-level competitions. Leaders in this category help ensure events run smoothly by supporting logistics, communication, and planning.

Ways to Get Involved

Pathway for Athlete Leadership

Management Team Member (Event/ Program Level)

Assist staff and event leaders with planning, communication, organization, and evaluation to ensure local and state competitions run smoothly.

Pathway for Athlete Leadership

Event Committee Member

Join a specialized group of volunteers to help prepare for specific pieces of local/regional/state level events. Ex: Logistics, Healthy Athletes, Volunteers, etc.

Management Team Member (Event/Program Level)

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Current Special Olympics Virginia athlete
  • Prior experience in leadership (e.g., Assistant Coach, Global Messenger) preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Attends planning meetings and follows through on assignments
  • Works well with staff and other athlete leaders

Event Committee Member

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Current Special Olympics Virginia athlete
  • Willing to work as part of a team and share feedback respectfully
  • Responsible, dependable, and committed to improving the athlete experience
  • Ability to complete one-step directions with minimal repetitive prompting
  • Ability to be onsite at event to support the committee
