Become a Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They are coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and managers. They can also be Unified partners - playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities - or fans cheering in the stands.
If you are interested in being a volunteer on a consistent basis, this is the spot for you. Sport Volunteers range from coaches and assistant coaches to Unified partners who play on the same team as Special Olympics athletes. Sports officials and competition directors, who oversee event competitions, also help us ensure the best play possible.
Do you know those lucky folks that get to award the winning athletes their shiny gold medals? That could be YOU! Our event volunteers are the backbone of our large competitions and fundraising events and often go on to become coaches and long-time volunteers.
Each of our Area programs provide sports training and competition throughout the year for the athletes in their community. Leadership volunteers are needed to serve on Area councils and make Special Olympics happen from behind the scenes.
