Shoot for Inclusion at Basketball Championships

Inclusion is coming to a court near you… nearly 800 Special Olympics Virginia athletes will go for gold at the annual Special Olympics Virginia Basketball Championships in Stafford this weekend.

The annual statewide event kicks off with All-Star Friday Night Opening Ceremony at Colonial Forge High School. The Ceremony begins at 7:30 pm and features a Unified basketball game, half-time show and the lighting of the Olympic Cauldron. On Saturday, competition runs from 8 am to 4 pm at various middle and high schools in Stafford and Fredericksburg, including Colonial Forge High School [550 Courthouse Road], Dixon Smith Middle School [503 Deacon Road], H.H. Poole Middle [800 Eustace Road], Stafford Middle School [101 Spartan Lane], Thompson Middle School [75 Walpole Street], Drew Middle School [501 Cambridge Street], North Stafford High School [839 Garrisonville Road], Mountain View High School [2135 Mountain View Road], Stafford Senior High [63 Stafford Indians Lane], Courthouse Community Center [550 Courthhouse Road] and Gayle Middle School [100 Panther Drive].

Competitions will take place throughout the day and include full court games, half court games, individual skill drills and unified games, where players with and without disabilities play on the same team. Additionally, 10 of the teams competing will be local to the Stafford/Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg area.
