2023 Unified Cup Raises over $52,000

5 teams demonstrated the power of playing unified at Independence Golf Club

The third annual Unified Cup Golf Tournament raised over $52,000 on Saturday, August 5 at Independence Golf Course.

Top Special Olympics Virginia golfers - Grace Anne Braxton, David Sutton, Andrew Allen, David Curtin and Roger Johnson competed with teams of media, law enforcement and community members on the course and in a fundraising challenge.

What is the Unified Cup?
The Unified Cup is a Special Olympics Virginia fundraising event. Participating teams consist of 1 Special Olympics Virginia athlete, 1 law enforcement torch run member, 1 sponsor and 1 media member.

The teams had the opportunity to earn strokes off their score for their fundraising efforts. Teams were then scored and had the chance to win a trophy based on best golf score and a trophy for golf score + total funds raised.

After 18 holes of golf and an intense fundraising competition, there was one team that took home both trophies, Team Estes. For the 3rd year in a row they played the best round of golf and raised the most funds at $16,221. "It's a wonderful event to be a part of, and it’s only made sweeter by raising $11,000 for an incredible cause," shared team member Greg Richardson. "Coming together as a team to win the event for another year was an added bonus, something we hope to continue next year.”

An idea from the University of Richmond Police Department, this event has raised over $130,000 for the Law Enforcement Torch Run efforts to date and we look forward to next year's competition!
