YPB Member Spotlight

Meet Britt Falabella

Members of the SOVA Young Professionals Board find us in different ways. Some want to become more active volunteers but others, like Britt Falabella, volunteered with Special Olympics long before finding us.

“I didn’t know the YPB existed, but I always wanted to have a different impact.”

Britt started volunteering with Special Olympics Virginia in 2009 after hearing Global Messenger, Will Daniel, give a speech at a University of Richmond basketball game. Britt took this call to action and became a partner player for softball, and later becoming a coach for soccer and basketball.

“Being a coach is amazing. There is nothing that will put you you in a better mood after a stressful day at work than hanging with your athlete friends.”

Britt says so many memories stand out from her years of coaching, especially when her buddy Brian was selected to shoot free throws at the opening ceremony for the Winter Games and was on fire, full of animation and excitement!

“Being a SOVA volunteer is one of those roles where you get 1000% more out of it than what you put in. I’ve made great friendships and connections that I will cherish forever.”

Since Will’s speech all those years ago, Special Olympics has been a consistent pull for Britt, but we love that our members are also rock stars outside of their YPB roles.

Britt is a lawyer by trade, has a wonderful family (including a recently welcomed puppy!), and moonlights as a pastry chef! In a past life she owned a baking company and is now a baking consultant for Tablespoons Bakery.

Athlete, Will Daniels, on Coach Britt:

"Britt was encouraging and motivating. She made us successful. She knew what she was doing as a coach and knew the sports very well. I was very excited to play for her. My greatest memories of Coach Britt were not just about the gold medals but how she made us be part of a team that worked together. She did a spectacular job as a coach."
