Wes, an educator and coach at Goochland High School, will be leading Virginia’s Unified track & field team, which includes athletes with and without disabilities from Goochland High School — including his son. The team has been training together after school as they prepare for competition. Wes has been involved with The Special Olympics for five years and has seen firsthand how athletes impact the school community with their positive attitudes and genuine care for others. His involvement has inspired him to become a more inclusive and compassionate coach, and he is encouraged every day by watching athletes and partners build meaningful friendships. He feels truly grateful to be part of a team that helps everyone grow into better people. Outside of school and coaching, he enjoys working with his hands and hopes to become a master carpenter when he retires.
