Lieutenant Adam Bernstein of the Virginia Beach Police Department has been a dedicated supporter of Special Olympics Virginia and the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for more than 20 years. What began as volunteering at a few fundraisers early in his career quickly grew into a deep and lasting commitment after serving as a School Resource Officer at Ocean Lakes High School. There, he witnessed firsthand the pride and excitement of students with intellectual disabilities sharing their Special Olympics achievements—an experience that inspired him to become more involved. In 2011, he was named the Torch Run liaison for the Virginia Beach Police Department, further expanding his leadership and impact.
Throughout his involvement, Lieutenant Bernstein has created countless meaningful memories, from organizing fundraisers and presenting medals to building lasting relationships with athletes. Among his most memorable experiences was participating in Dancing with the Athletes alongside partner Samantha Bondurant and serving on the LETR Final Leg Team for the 2025 Special Olympics Winter World Games in Italy. Witnessing the joy and growth of the athletes on that global stage was, in his words, truly extraordinary.
Lieutenant Bernstein continues to be a passionate advocate for Special Olympics Virginia, driven by the connections he’s built and the inspiration he draws from the athletes he serves.
