Young Athletes Curriculum

Week Two, Lesson Three

LESSON OVERVIEW

Opening Sports Song with Bunny Hop (3 min) – Start each Young Athletes class with a gathering/warm-up song with Bunny Hop motions.

Step and Jump (6 min) – Using your tape/rope and floor markers, the athlete jumps off the tape/rope and tries to land on a floor marker.

Run and Carry (6 min) – Place a floor marker at each end of the room. Place the ball, bean bag and scarf on one floor marker. The athlete runs the objects one at a time to the other floor marker.

"Coach Says" (5 min) – The child imitates the action of the coach. Try standing on one foot, standing with one foot in front of the other, standing on tip toes, standing on heels. Too easy? Try these variations with arms out/in/up/down.

Obstacle Course (7 min) – Set up an obstacle course with floor markers for jumping on, cones to weave around and the balance beam/rope/floor tape to walk on before running to the finish line.

Closing Sports Song (3 min) – You did it! Sing along and do the motions that accompany the song.
