Megan Shepard

Athlete, Swimming

Megan heads to Minnesota in June as a swimmer. She has been involved in the Special Olympics for 16 years and has competed in regional and state games almost every year since 2009. Megan also tried volleyball and basketball, but found her passion in swimming. She won gold medals in the 100 butterfly and 4x100 medley relay at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles and became a Global Messenger that same year. Megan is proud to show that her disability has not held her back and says the Special Olympics has helped her become more confident and social. She is currently training for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games and looks forward to representing Virginia and meeting new people. Outside of Special Olympics, Megan enjoys church, dancing, traveling, and whitewater rafting, and she stays active by helping others in her community.
