Matthew Doyle

Matthew Doyle has been a proud Special Olympics Virginia athlete for more than 21 years, competing in tennis, track & field, softball, and basketball — his favorite sport. Over two decades of involvement, he has become a powerful voice for inclusion and a respected leader within the Special Olympics and Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) communities.

Matthew made history as the first person with an intellectual disability to serve as a Guardian of the Flame at the 2024 International Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference. He also serves on the LETR Executive Council and holds the honorary rank of Captain in the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Special Star Force. In addition, he is a Special Olympics Global Messenger, sharing his story and delivering public speeches to inspire others around the world. In 2012, he was named Special Olympics Virginia Athlete of the Year.

Matthew continues to be a passionate advocate for inclusion, using his platform to inspire change and connection. As he shares, “Inclusion is not just about participation, but about creating a world where every individual is accepted and welcomed for who they are.”
