Joseph has been involved with the Special Olympics for 8 years as a golf coach. Thanks to Special Olympics, Joseph now has new avenues of opportunities that he can share with his son, who is an athlete in the program. “The challenges of having a child with special needs was somewhat new to me. My son is unique in so many ways and solutions to his challenges are equally unique.” What makes him the most proud is how everyone in his family has positively changed and evolved over the years through their involvement in the Special Olympics. Outside of the Special Olympics, Joseph coached lacrosse for 30 years at various schools and youth programs, and he enjoys traveling and supporting his family. The biggest challenge Joseph Long has had is balancing his Special Olympics experiences with having a child with disabilities of his very own. Joseph’s son is unique in so many distinct ways and the challenges his son faces are equally as unique.
