James Wenley athlete from Tappahannock who has been involved with the Special Olympics Virginia movement for 37 years. During that time, he has competed in volleyball, softball, bowling, soccer, basketball, and track and field. Special Olympics has had a big impact on his life, helping him stay active and out of trouble while forming strong friendships and achieving personal goals. James is also a member of the Moose Lodge and works at Stafford Hospital as a floor technician. He competed in volleyball at the 2014 USA Games and is excited to return for the 2026 Games, where he looks forward to meeting athletes from other states. Known for his sense of humor and ability to make people laugh, James trains for competition through regular practice, walking, and running. He admires Michael Jordan for his dedication and drive, and he takes pride in being part of a community that celebrates teamwork and accomplishment.
