Wawa’s typical activation at the Virginia Beach Polar Plunge includes a giant truck on the boardwalk stocked with free hot cocoa and coffee for Plungers and spectators to enjoy throughout the cold weekend.
In 2021, the Virginia Beach Polar Plunge went completely virtual, which caused us to get creative with Wawa’s event engagement. Wawa donated free beverage coupons that were included in all registered fundraisers’ Plunge Packs. In the week leading up to our virtual Plunge celebration, we designated Wednesday as “Wawa Wednesday”, encouraged our supporters to visit their local Wawa, take a photo of their beverage, and post on social media using the hashtag #WawaWednesday. If fundraisers earned the Hydroflask incentive, they would also receive a custom Wally the Goose sticker to display on their bottle.
Every year Wawa associates participate in Polar bear Plunges in those icy waters to support our friends at the Special Olympics and their athletes. This year is no different, our commitment to Special Olympics remains the same. So now in a virtual way we have something new, the Polar Plunge.
