I’ve had a lot of titles in my life: husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, student, graduate, writer, editor, coach, volunteer. Never did I think I would add this one: Special Olympics athlete.

David Thomason will take office on July 1, 2022, as Special Olympics Virginia’s President.

A record-breaking $20 million was raised nationwide for the Special Olympics during Jersey Mike’s Annual Month of Giving.

Tim Nash, an athlete from Virginia Beach, is deaf. He's also the unquestioned leader of his team whose presence on the court is contagious.

Virginia Tech, a Special Olympics Unified Champion School, received national banner recognition Feb. 4 for the school's efforts to provide inclusive sports for that include persons with and without disabilities. This honor is a result of meeting 10 Special Olympics’ national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect. Virginia Tech is the first university in the state to receive this honor.
