**Update as of 9AM (June 9) - After carefully evaluating air quality conditions, we are pleased to inform you it is safe to resume outdoor activities on Saturday, June 10, as initially planned.
Due to the prevailing air quality conditions, Special Olympics Virginia has made the difficult decision to cancel all Summer Games outdoor activities on Friday, June 9, specifically softball, tennis, track and field, and the Torch Run Final Mile. All indoor activities will proceed as planned to include bowling and swimming. The Opening Ceremony will start at 7:15 pm inside the Robins Center.
At this time we are optimistic that Saturday’s (June 10) outdoor activities will go on as scheduled. We will continually monitor air quality conditions and communicate any changes as they develop.
Your well-being and safety are our utmost priority, and after careful consideration and consultation with relevant authorities, we have determined it is in everyone's best interest to avoid potential air quality risks. We understand that this news may cause disappointment and inconvenience, but we appreciate your understanding and support during these challenging circumstances.
