Southwest Virginia Plane Pull

Event Day Step-By-Step Team Directions

Arrival and Security
Teams should plan to arrive at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Airport Cargo area and park in the designated participant lot (1410 Coulter Road NW, Roanoke, VA 24012) at least 30 minutes before their team’s pull window. After parking, proceed through security and make sure to review the “What to Bring” section of the website beforehand.

Team Gathering
Teams should gather as a group before heading to team check-in. Each team will determine their own meeting spot. Once the entire team is together, and the pull window is within 30 minutes, head to the check-in tent.

Team Check-In
At the check-in tent, volunteers and staff will:

  • Confirm your donation total. Please note: Your team must raise at least $2,500 by check-in to participate.
  • Collect any additional cash, check, or credit card donations.
  • Check-in each team member individually. If a team member hasn’t registered, they’ll need to do so on-site.
  • Distribute plane tickets to each team member, granting access to the pull area and serving as an incentive coupon.

Incentives
The incentive items for the event are as follows:

  • Teams raising $2,500 will receive 25 event hats. Additional hats may be distributed after all teams have checked in, on a case-by-case basis.
  • Teams raising $5,000 will receive 25 event shirts.
  • The top three fundraising teams (determined as of midnight on 9/26) will gain access to the aviation lounge, with wristbands provided.

Staging and Preparation
After check-in, teams will either be escorted to staging areas to prepare for the pull or can proceed to pick up their incentives. At the incentives tent, show your plane ticket to receive your earned items. Incentives can be picked up individually, even for team items.

When your team is ready to stage, use your plane ticket to enter the teams-only access area. Teams will move between two waiting tents— "On Deck" and "Rope Ready"— before heading to the rope. In the Rope Ready tent, a volunteer will confirm your team name and assign a results card.

If your team has more than 25 members, you’ll be offered both a Fun Pull (for more than 25 people) and a Competitive Pull (limited to 25 people).

Post-Pull Activities
After completing the pull, your team will be escorted by FedEx volunteers to take a team photo. Following the photo, all team members will be offered water and escorted out of the teams-only access area. Team times will be posted on the large results board near the stage.
