Wilson heads to Minnesota as Virginia’s head golf coach. He has been involved with the Special Olympics since 1988, when his son Wallace first became an athlete. Over the years, he has coached golf, swimming, track & field, volleyball, and basketball, after first getting involved as a parent volunteer. His dedication eventually led him to serve as an assistant coach, head coach, and Council Chairman for Special Olympics Virginia’s Loudoun program. Coaching in the Special Olympics has been life-changing for Wilson, teaching him the value of inclusion, resilience, and finding joy in every moment. The athletes inspire him every day to stay active and to lead with compassion in his community. One of the most important lessons he has learned is how to adapt his communication to meet the unique needs of every athlete, parent, coach, and volunteer. This experience has helped him become more patient, creative, and flexible, and has made him a better listener and a stronger coach.
