Over 1,200 athletes went for the gold at the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games


  

Over 1,200 athletes from around the Commonwealth converged on Richmond on June 10th and 11th to participate in softball, tennis, track & field, swimming, bowling and powerlifting at the Special Olympics Virginia Summer Games.

The Summer Games began at with the final leg of the Torch Run on Friday, June 10th followed by the 30th anniversary Opening Ceremony. This event included the ceremonial lighting of the Olympic Torch along with the presentation of the award for State Volunteer of the Year and Coach of the Year.

The competitions began Saturday at 8 a.m. and continued through mid-afternoon.
