Virginia Beach, Va. - Congratulations, plungers, volunteers and sponsors! 2800 plungers raised more than $440,000 for Special Olympics Virginia at the 13th Annual Polar Plunge Winter Festival on Saturday, February 5th, 2005 at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
Since 1995 more than $1.5 million has been raised for Special Olympics Virginia, with over 11,000 people taking the plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. Special Olympics Virginia today announced that currently more than $440,000 has been raised from the 2005 Plunge, but the amount could increases as additional pledges are turned in.
The Polar Plunge event, which was presented by Cox Communications and The Fox 106.9 FM, benefited Special Olympics Virginia, the state program of Special Olympics Incorporated, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 14,000 children and adults with mental disabilities at no costs to the athletes or their families.
