SOVA's Athlete of the Week for June 16, 2003
Name: Megan Farrar
Hometown: Staunton
Age: 18-years old
Number of years in Special Olympics: 10 years
Special Olympics Sports: Megan participates in soccer skills, cheerleading, swimming,
bowling and softball skills. In the past, she has also participated in speed roller-skating,
volleyball skills, half-court basketball, athletics and gymnastics!

Major Accomplishments: Last year, Megan won a gold medal at the Fall Tournaments in Virginia
Beach for her performance in soccer skills. She also won 2 gold medals at the Summer Games in
Richmond for her performance on the swim team!
Medals: Megan is the proud owner of tons of medals. She has 20 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Like many of her local fellow athletes, her ribbons are just too numerous to count!
Interest: Megan's favorite TV show is Dora the Explorer. She also plays games on her Game
Boy Advance and entertaining herself with her numerous Barbie dolls. Megan is also a member of her
church youth group and the "Girls night out" group.
Education Status: Megan is currently a junior at Robert E. Lee High School. She plans to graduate in 2004!
What has SOVA done for you? Special Olympics has helped Megan to develop wonderful socialization
skills through sports as well the addition social activities it sponsors. It has also had a great
impact on developing her self-esteem and life-long friendships. The exercise also keeps her in
great shape!
