Team Virginia's athletes win big during 2007 World Games in China
The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China, have come to a close! This year's event marked the first time the World Summer Games have been held in Asia, and only the second time they have been held outside the United States. In addition to some 7,000 athletes, this year's event featured more than 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials and thousands of families, volunteers, spectators and journalists from every continent.
Team Virginia boasted eight athletes competing as part of Team USA, a contingent of more than 400 athletes and more than 100 coaches. We'd like to extend a special thank you to Team Virginia's sponsors: Team Patrons, Mark & Barbara Fried; Presenting Sponsor, Wal-Mart; Delegation Sponsors, American Family Fitness & Hampton Park Men's Club, along with Team USA National Sponsor, Bank of America.
