Team Virginia Brings Home Gold, Silver and Bronze from 2010 National Games

Nebraska or Bust!

For six days this summer, 33 Virginia athletes will become Huskers. They’ll swim, run, play soccer, roll bocce balls, bowl, golf, serve up aces and lift hundreds of pounds at the second Special Olympics USA National Games, July 18-23 at the University of Nebraska and several nearby venues.

Lighting the Way for Special Olympics: the Flame's 1900-Mile Journey
It’s traveled more than 1,900 miles.  More than 2,000 officers and many Special Olympics athletes have held it high as they proudly ran through dozens of cities and towns this past week. Friday, June 11, at the Summer Games Opening Ceremony, the “Guardians of the Flame” presented the torch to Special Olympics athlete Nicole Cooke, who officially lit the Olympic Cauldron to open the Summer Games. Special Olympics & Denny's Kick Off Year-Long Partnership

Denny’s Gold Medal Program, the first of two national Special Olympics initiatives, provides guests the opportunity to benefit Special Olympics Virginia by purchasing a paper “Gold Medal” for $1 or more. 100% of the funds raised from the Gold Medal Program will help support athletic training and competitions for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Guests can conveniently benefit Special Olympics Virignia by purchasing a paper "Gold Medal" at more than 1,000 Denny's locations across the country now through July 12.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge

Special Olympics Athletes Shine on a Different Court

"Homecoming King and Queen" are titles usually reserved for football quarterbacks and head cheerleaders, but one Virginia high school changed all that with a single, powerful gesture of inclusion this October.
