Special Olympics is committed to empowering people with intellectual disabilities, both on and off the playing field.
While we are a sports organization first and foremost, Special Olympics Virginia has expanded its services to help athletes become healthier, more confident and capable of serving as leaders, both within Special Olympics and in their communities. Through programs such as Healthy Athletes and Global Messengers, athletes have the chance to share their stories and improve their physical well-being.
Additional initiatives like Unified Sports, Volunteer to Cheer and our Urban Programs, invite the community to play sports alongside our athletes, be fans in the stands during competitions and help us better serve the often underserved in the city of Richmond and Petersburg.
