Thank you for your interest in coaching. Coaches are the key to a successful sports experience for our more than 10,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes.

To get started, please fill out our online Volunteer Interest Form below. Your information will be routed to the appropriate Region Director, who will contact you with additional information about volunteer opportunities in your locality. We look forward to having you as a part of our team!

  • Please indicate below how you would like to volunteer with Special Olympics Virginia.
  • Coach - Work with a group of athletes for two hours/week for a three-month sport season.
  • Event Volunteer - Help out at a Special Olympics sports competition or fundraising event. Opportunities are available nearly year round at local and state level competitions, as well at fundraising events like Over the Edge and Polar Plunge.
  • Local Program Committee - Special Olympics can't happen without leadership! Help with a local program committee such as event planning, fundraising, public relations, athlete registration, family hospitality, etc.
  • Medical Team - Lend your skills as an RN, doctor, medical or nursing student, athletic trainer, etc. at a local or state level event. Experience in the medical field required.
  • Student Internship/Office Assistance - Help in a Special Olympics office. Tasks include data entry and event preparation. Opportunities are available in Richmond, Fairfax, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, Blacksburg, Virginia Beach, and Fredericksburg.
